The advantages
With half-cell panels, whole solar cells are literally split so that the panels are covered with twice as many small cells as normal: 120 instead of 60. The idea behind this is that the current within a cell always encounters a little resistance, and that resistance depends on the distance the current has to travel through the cell. By dividing the cell in half, the distance is also divided in half, and therefore the loss due to the resistance is also less.
